Projects
Here are a few of our current projects in La Mesa de San Martín, Panama:
Casa Natura Family Housing
Affordable and well-constructed family housing is greatly needed in the La Mesa community. We are developing these units in an eco-friendly way by using local materials and labor, as well as by minimizing impact to the surrounding natural environment. We are also installing a clean water system and cleaning up water runoff pollution caused by a nearby factory.
Cabobre River
The Cabobre river runs through the entire La Mesa neighborhood and is a critical water source for both humans and animals. We want to keep this river clean. Run-off and dumping practices by nearby factories and large construction companies are threatening the health of the river. We are partnering with neighborhood groups to organize river clean-ups and lobby local government authorities to enforce stricter environmental protection regulation of the river.
Sloth Sanctuaries
Sloths are endangered in Panama and many are indigenous to the La Mesa area. We are working with local residents to identify private land that can be purchased or status converted to create new wildlife sanctuaries for sloths and other local animal populations to thrive.
